Roads Update at 2.30pm on Monday 11th January, 2010

Road Conditions vary substantially at this time. With the onset of a thaw slush and moisture are currently lying above compacted ice making driving conditions variable and, in places, treacherous. Motorists/Pedestrians are advised to exercise extreme care on the public road network at this time.

Salting of the M8 and the National Road network will continue this evening (11/01/10) from 5pm taking. These routes are deemed passable with care.

Gritting of the Regional Road network has continued over the course of 11/01/10. As outlined above some sections of the Regional Road network may have ice covered by moisture/slush and, as such, may be extremely dangerous. However, in general, the Regional Road network is considered passable with extreme care.

Local Roads continue to be categorized as extremely dangerous and only essential journeys should be considered with route planning recommended to focus on the National and Regional road network even if this results in longer journeys than normal.

Following a Meeting of the Severe Weather Local Co-Ordination Group the advice of the Co-Ordination Group is that schools do not re-open tomorrow Tuesday 12th January. A further update on this recommendation will issue at lunchtime tomorrow.
